In the race for the final Champions League spot in Germany, Borussia Dortmund will be hopeful of staking a huge claim for that spot this weekend. Dortmund are currently in fourth position with 57 points, while their opponents this weekend Hoffenheim are in third with 58 points. Including this game, there are three games to go and the winner looks to hold the upper hand for sure.
Dortmund have won three out of their last four at home, although they were disappointing last time against Koln, only managing a 0-0 draw. Prior to that game, they looked a lot better, beating Frankfurt 3-1 and Hamburger 3-0 in good style. They haven’t lost at home all season, winning 11 and drawing 4, something that bodes well for them going into this game.
Hoffenheim have struggled away from home recently and they have won just one of their last four games on their travels. They have drawn eight games away from home all season, showing they are tough to beat but with just four wins, they don’t win many. With such an important game ahead of them, surely Hoffenheim have to go out looking for the win, and that could leave them vulnerable.
It has been a fascinating run in over the last few games and whoever wins this game will surely hold the upper hand as we head into the final couple of weeks. With good home form and good recent form, I have to back Dortmund here in this one. I think they will be too strong for Hoffenheim, they will open the game up and Hoffenheim won’t be able to keep up. The more goals in this one, the better chance Dortmund have, so let’s hope for plenty of goals and a home win.
