Madrid derby to end all square

On Saturday night, Atletico Madrid host city rivals Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in a massive derby game in La Liga.

The home side have started their La Liga campaign in decent and are in fact 15 games undefeated in the Spanish top-flight. They will start this game in fourth place in La Liga, behind rivals Real Madrid on goal difference.

Diego Simeone’s team are famous for their solidity in defence, which can lead to low scoring and tight encounters involving Los Rojiblancos.

This is illustrated by the fact that 11 of Atletico’s last 14 La Liga games, including their last six have produced under 2.5 goals.

Simeone’s side have been solid at the back as usual in La Liga in recent games, as they have kept four clean sheets in six games in La Liga, conceding just two goals in the process.

Atletico have won just one of the last five meetings with their arch-rivals in all competitions. Zinedine Zidane’s team won the corresponding fixture 3-0 last season.

Real Madrid are currently third and eight points behind bitter rivals Barcelona at the top of the table. Los Blancos have recovered from a mixed start to the campaign to put a decent run of results together in La Liga.

The Spanish have won five of their last six league games. However, the blip came in an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at minnows Girona. The defeat ended a 13-match winning streak for Real on their travels in La Liga.

The men from the capital have also been red hot in front of goal in that run of victories, scoring at least twice in all of the wins.

Madrid derbies are usually heated affairs. Atletico are hard to beat and do not concede many goals, while the visitors are very free scoring. Unfortunately, for the visitors, this game has under 2.5 goals and a draw written all over it.
