Premier League leaders Manchester City recorded a record-breaking 15th straight win the English top-flight last time out against Swansea. On Saturday evening, the Citizens get a chance to extend that record to 16 games when Tottenham visit the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens have been in red-hot form this season, winning 16 of their 17 Premier League games, while scoring goals for fun along the way. Incredibly, Pep Guardiola’s side have scored two or more goals in 15 of their 17 top-flight outings this season.
City’s high scoring ways has led to over 2.5 goals being scored in 14 of their 17 Premier League outings this season. The league leaders are also formidable on home soil, as they are 20 games undefeated at the Etihad Stadium in the league, having won their last seven home league games.
One negative for City going into this clash is that they have failed to beat Tottenham in the last four meetings in all competitions, suffering three defeats in the process.
Tottenham managed to steady the ship after a relatively poor run of form by recording back-to-back wins over Stoke and last time out Brighton. Mauricio Pochettino’s side briefly dropped out of the Champions League spots.
However, the north London side are now fourth place, even if it is only by virtue of a superior goal difference to Liverpool and Burnley.
One issue that has dogged Spurs in recent weeks has been their poor away form. The north London side have failed to win in their last four games on their travels in the Premier League while losing three times. It seems unlikely that their poor away record will improve in this clash.
It really is hard to see past a home win in this clash in a high scoring affair. Spurs have caused the Citizens problems in recent years. However, I see Guardiola’s side emerging from this game with a 16th straight victory.
