Mexico to knock Russia out of the Confederations Cup

On Saturday we have the final group games from Group A of the Confederations Cup and in those games, I fancy Mexico to send the Russian hosts out of the competition.

As we stand now, Mexico and Portugal both have four points in the group, with Russia one behind on three. It is highly likely that Portugal will win against New Zealand, so Mexico will want to win to try and secure top spot in the group. I believe they will do this, and knock out the hosts in the process.

Mexico scored an injury time goal in their first game to salvage a draw against Portugal before coming from behind to beat New Zealand in their second game.

Both performances were a little below par from the Mexicans, and I expect to see more from them now that they have settled in the tournament. They are a very good team and on their day they can compete with anyone in this tournament.

Russia would have wanted to be in a much better position that this going into the final games and if they do get knocked out at the group stages, the tournament will have been a big disappointment.

They looked in control during their first match against New Zealand but then lost against Portugal after an early Cristiano Ronaldo goal. They had chances in that game, but failed to put them away, giving them a must win game this weekend to qualify.

Russia have home advantage here, but Mexico are a very good team and I expect to see more from them as the tournament continues. They will want to win this one to secure top spot in the group, and I think they will, knocking out the hosts Russia in the process.
