Palermo at risk of a thrashing by Juventus on Friday

Juventus host Palermo at Juventus Stadium in Friday’s Italian Serie A clash, and are big favourites to pick up all three points to extend their lead at the top to ten points. The Old Lady have been in fantastic form and should no problems against a relegation-threatened Palermo outfit with one of the worst defences in the division.

Hosts Juventus are top of the Italian Serie A table with 60 points from 24 games this season, boasting five consecutive wins ahead of the visit of Palermo. Massimiliano Allegri’s side have been flawless on home soil, winning all 12 of their games at the Juventus Stadium in the league, conceding just six goals and scoring 30. And given Palermo are suffering a number of defeats away from home while conceding a large amount of goals in the process, Friday’s clash could be a one-sided affair.

As for the visitors, Palermo are 18th in the division with 14 points, eight adrift of safety. The away side have lost four and drawn one of their last six games, and are big underdogs to get a result given how poor their form has been throughout the campaign. Palermo have won just three of their 24 games in the league, conceding just shy of two goals per game, while scoring less than a goal-per-match themselves. Away from home, Palermo have lost four of their previous half a dozen outings and are expected to come unstuck to the league leaders.

Team News

Juventus have a depleted backline ahead of the meeting, with Giorgio Chiellinidiagnosed with a distractive trauma to the flexors in the right thigh, while Andrea Barzagli also has a thigh injury. Mario Mandžukić is still suspended.

Palermo have a large injury list, with Giuseppe Pezzella, Stefan Silva, Simone Lo Faso, Andrea Fulignati, Slobodan Rajković all out of action.

Prediction

With Juventus boasting five wins on the bounce and a 100% home record, a travel-sick Palermo side stuck in the relegation zone stand little chance of an upset on Friday. The visitors’ poor defensive record could be given a beating by a goal-laden Juventus.
