I’m not sure too many international teams want to be playing right now and especially not a huge game, but unfortunately that is the case for Wales.
They face a tricky trip to Serbia to face the leaders of World Cup Qualifying Group D in what is pretty close to being a must-win game for them. Serbia and the Republic Of Ireland both have 11 points after five games, Wales are four points behind and they cannot afford to let that lead stretch even further.
Wales have struggled to get going in this campaign, drawing four out of their five games and winning the other one. This is disappointing when you consider their performance on the big stage at Euro 2016 and something they will be desperate to change. When the draw was made, Wales would have fancied their chances of qualifying but their challenge has yet to materialise.
Serbia have played very well so far, although they know the job is not done yet. They have a tough trip to the Republic Of Ireland to come in September so they know the importance of picking up as many points as they can before then. All that does is makes this game even more important, with huge implications for both teams and because of that, this game may turn out to be quite a cagey affair.
Serbia is not an easy place to visit and Wales will find things tough I think. The Serbians have enough quality to nick this one, although I do think the game will be close and scrappy, probably with the odd goal being enough to win it. While Wales do have a chance and really need to pick up something, I just don’t see them having enough to do that and I am backing the hosts to win.
